Agent noun of the verb ܡܲܚܫܸܒ݂ (maḥšiḇ, to purport, claim; to calculate, reckon, compute) +‎ -ܵܢܵܐ (-ānā, the occupational ending); cognate with Arabic مُحَاسِب (muḥāsib), Hebrew חַשָּׁב (khasháv) and רוֹאֵה חֶשְׁבּוֹן (ro'é kheshbón).
