Etymology[edit]

Suffix[edit]

-ܵܢܵܐ (-ānām sg (feminine -ܵܢܝܼܬܵܐ (-ānītā), plural -ܵܢܹ̈ܐ (-ānē))

  1. -er, -ic, -y: suffix forming nouns and adjectives denoting having the properties of the noun the suffix is attached to
    ܫܹܐܕ݂ܵܐ (šēḏā, demon) + ‎-ܢܐ (-ānā) → ‎ܫܹܐܕ݂ܵܢܵܐ (šēḏānā, having a demon, demonic)
    ܡܲܝ̈ܵܐ (mayyā, water) + ‎-ܢܐ (-ānā) → ‎ܡܲܝܵܢܵܐ (mayyānā, having water, watery)
    ܚܸܡܵܐ (ḥimmā, heat) + ‎-ܢܐ (-ānā) → ‎ܚܸܡܵܢܵܐ (ḥimmānā, having heat)
    ܡܸܥܙܬܵܐ (miˁztā, hair) + ‎-ܢܐ (-ānā) → ‎ܡܸܥܙܵܢܵܐ (miˁzānā, having hair, hairy)
