Semi-learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܦܛܩܐ (peṭqā) with a shift from /ṭ/ to /ṯ/, from Ancient Greek πιττάκιον (pittákion); compare also borrowed into Arabic بِطَاقَة (biṭāqa).
