From Aramaic תַּרְנָגְלָא (tarənāḡlā), from Akkadian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (tarlugallum), from Sumerian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (dar-lugalmušen /⁠darlugal⁠/, literally great, kingly, or crowned francolin; another member of the Gallini); compare Hebrew תַּרְנְגוֹל (tarn'gól).
