Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆- (*aṭṭ-). Cognate to Punjabi ਅੱਟਣਾ (aṭṭaṇā), Nepali अटाउनु (aṭāunu), Assamese অটা (ota).
