Etymology[edit]

From Prakrit [script needed] (*trēḍḍha-, crooked), related to Sanskrit टेरक (ṭeraka, squinting) and टगर (ṭagara, squint-eyed), the latter whence Hindi टग्रा (ṭagrā, cross-eyed). Compare Marathi टेढा (ṭeḍhā).
