Inherited from Prakrit 𑀡𑀕𑁆𑀕 (ṇagga) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit नग्न (nagná, “naked”).
