Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit विज्ञप्ति (vijñapti), probably through Prakrit विण्णत्ति (viṇṇatti). Compare Punjabi ਬੇਨਤੀ (bentī) / بینتی (bentī), Marathi विनंती (vinantī), Sindhi وينَتيِ / विनती, Hindi बिनती (bintī)[1].
