Borrowed from Classical Persian حاضر (hāzir), from Arabic حَاضِر (ḥāḍir). Compare Gujarati હાજર (hājar), Bengali হাজির (hajir), Marathi हजर (hajar), Punjabi ਹਾਜ਼ਰ (hāzar).
