Borrowed from Classical Persian داغ (dāğ, sear; blemish; scar; mark). Compare Assamese দাগ (dag), Maithili 𑒠𑒰𑒑 (dāg), Hindustani داغ (dāġ) / दाग़ (dāġ), Gujarati ડાઘો (ḍāgho), Marathi डाग (ḍāg), Odia ଦାଗ (dagô), Punjabi ਦਾਗ਼ (dāġ), Sindhi داغُ (dāġu).
