Etymology[edit]

Derived from Sanskrit *से (se), from (sa, 1st-case singular pronoun) +‎ (i, demonstrative), from Proto-Indo-European *só and *h₁i, respectively. Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠦ (he), Bengali সে (śe), Odia ସେ (se) and Maithili 𑂮𑂵 (se).
