Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀁𑀟 (khaṃḍa), from Sanskrit खण्ड (khaṇḍa), of non-Indo-European origin. Cognate with Marathi खांड (khāṇḍa), Sindhi کنڊ (khanḍu).
