Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from French Cambodge and Portuguese Camboja. Both these words are derived from Middle Khmer Kambuja (Modern Khmer, Kampuchea). Ultimately from Sanskrit काम्बोज (kāmboja, a tribe mentioned in Hindu scripture).
