Thai[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From โมฆ (moo-ká-, invalid, void; profitless, useless; etc) +‎ บุรุษ (bù-rùt, man; person); ultimately from Sanskrit मोघ (mogha, fruitless; futile; unprofitable; useless; vain) + पुरुष (puruṣa, man; person), probably via Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer puruṣa (man; person). Compare Modern Khmer មោឃបុរស (moŭkhbŏrsâ).
