Etymology[edit]

From Middle Georgian საათი (saati, clock), ultimately from Arabic سَاعَة (sāʕa). For the sense development of 'hour' → 'clock, watch' compare Turkish saat. Replaced the earlier ჟამი (žami, time, hour).
