Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian [Term?], equivalent of modern ჯანი (ǯani, health) +‎ მრთელი (mrteli, wholesome). Likely modeled in both meaning and form on Old Georgian გუამ მრთელი (guam mrteli), which became dated as გუამი (guami), originally meaning body, gradually shifted to გვამი (gvami) (corpse), which was replaced by Persianate word ჯანი (ǯani) (health, strength, life force).
