Named after Naples in Italy: borrowed from French napolitain (“Neapolitan”), from Latin neāpolītānus, from Neāpolis (“Naples”), from Ancient Greek Νεᾱ́πολῐς (Neā́polis), from νέᾱ (néā, “new”) + πόλῐς (pólis, “city”).
