Etymology

From 壁(かべ) (kabe, “wall”) + ドン (don, onomatopoeia for a pounding noise).

Noun

壁(かべ)ドン • (kabedon) 

1. Pounding on a wall to indicate to a neighbor that they are noisy.
2. When someone puts their hand against a near wall (romantically or hostilely), creating a barrier with their arm and preventing someone else from moving.

Usage notes

• A common staple of shōjo manga, it is usually executed by a male towards a female.
  • The word 逆壁(ぎゃくかべ)ドン (gyaku-kabedon, literally “reverse-kabedon”) is sometimes used to refer to kabedon executed by a female towards a male.
