Etymology[edit]

From Middle Chinese 独鈷 (duwk gu?).

(とっ)() (tokkoとくこ (tokuko)? (alternative reading hiragana どっこ, rōmaji dokko, historical hiragana どくこ)

  1. (Buddhism) A single pronged vajra used in Shingon rituals
    Synonym: 独鈷杵 (dokkosho)
  2. a pattern for cloth, consisting of interlocking tokko shapes

Usage notes[edit]

Historically, it appears that this word may have also been read as tokuko and toko. However, these alternative readings seem to be rare and possibly obsolete, and modern dictionaries may not include them.
