- Phonetic hangul: [교(ː)의/교(ː)이]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.

Usage notes[edit]
This word was the traditional Korean word for "chair" but was displaced by modern 의자(椅子) (uija), a loanword from Japanese, during the period of Japanese colonial rule (1910—1945).
