Suffix[edit]

라니 (-rani)

  1. Alternative form of 다니 (-dani), used in the environments where (-ra) is required. In particular, always used after the stem of 이다 (-ida, to be, copula), whether present or elided, and its negative 아니다 (anida, to not be).
    스폰지 동물라니.Seuponji-ga dongmur-i-ra-ni.How can a sponge be an animal?
    우리나라 일본보다 아니라니.Urinara-ga Ilbon-boda keun ge ani-ra-ni.Wow, Korea isn't bigger than Japan.
    자그만 나무라니.Jeo jageuman geos-i namu-ra-ni.Wow, to think that such a little thing is a tree.
  2. Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see (-ra),‎ (-ni)— equivalent to (-ra-go ha-ni).
    여기 위험한 라니 나갑시다.
    Yeogi-do wiheom-han gos-i-ra-ni nagapsida.
    Since they say it's dangerous here as well, let's leave.
  3. Post-vowel and post-liquid allomorphic form of 으라니 (-eurani).
    보고 라니 가야지.Na-bogo ga-ra-ni gayaji.Since you tell me to go, I have to go.
