Etymology[edit]

From Middle Korean ᄇᆡ〯ᄎᆡ〮 (pǒychóy), borrowed from Early Mandarin 白菜 (EM *pajᴸᴸtsʰaj) in the 13th century.[1] Cognate with Korean 배추 (baechu).
