Etymology[edit]
By analogy with 케바케 (kebake), replacing the syllable 케 (ke) for English case with 사 (sa) for Korean 사람 (saram, “person”).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈsʰa̠(ː)ba̠sʰa̠]
- Phonetic hangul: [사(ː)바사]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
