Etymology[edit]

인(人) (in, human) +‎ (-ui, genitive marker) +‎ 장막(帳幕) (jangmak, curtain). Probably by analogy with 철의 장막 ( 帳幕, Cheor-ui jangmak, “Iron Curtain”).
