From Middle Irish -amail (compare Manx -oil, Scottish Gaelic -ail, -eil), from Old Irish -amail.

Suffix[edit]

-úil

  1. Used to form many adjective forms from nouns in Irish, the adjectives having the sense of "like or characteristic of what is denoted by the noun". Similar to English -ly.
    fear (man) + ‎-úil → ‎fearúil (manly)
    cairde (friends) + ‎-úil → ‎cairdiúil (friendly)
