Usage notes[edit]

In written Assamese, the spelling of this suffix depends on the ending sound of the verb stem. If it ends with a consonant then no suffix is written, though some may use the vowel marker (o) to prevent ambiguity. If the verb stem ends with o, a and u, then -ৱ (-wo) suffix is written (eg, খাৱ (kha-o, you consume). If the verb stem ends with -i then -য় (-yo) suffix is written, (eg, দিয় (di-o, you give).
