Suffix[edit]

다랗다 (-darata)

  1. Attached after adjectives and less commonly some roots; an intensifying suffix creating h-irregular adjectives
(keo-, big) + ‎다랗다 (-darata, very) → ‎커다랗다 (keodarata, enormous)
가늘 (ganeul-, thin) + ‎다랗다 (-darata, very) → ‎가느다랗다 (ganeudarata, very thin)
(jjal-, short) + ‎다랗다 (-darata, very) → ‎짤따랗다 (jjalttarata, shorter than average; very short)

Usage notes[edit]

  • When used after a root that ends with a (l), the (l) disappears.
  • When used after a root ending with the double badchim (lb), (b) disappears and (d) becomes tense.
  • Some forms of adjectives derived with this suffix must be borrowed from certain dialects as seen in 커다랗다 (keodarata) and 잗다랗다 (jatdarata).
