Can somebody please add the declensional pattern of the word? Also, I don't understand why the Latin nix differentiated from the stem niv- as it did. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 15:59, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
- In the nominative, the ending caused devoicing, deaspiration and delabialization of the consonant: -gʷʰs > -kʷʰs > -ks. This is a regular process in Latin and happens in many words. In the other forms, the -gʷʰ- was before a vowel, so it underwent the regular Latin development into -v-. —CodeCat 16:32, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

- I don't know how it was inflected, beyond that it was an athematic root noun. Having a stressed í in the root of an athematic noun is rather unusual though, so it's quite possible that the actual nominative was *snéygʷʰs, with genitive *snigʷʰés. —CodeCat 18:27, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
