- An English habitational surname, derived from the village of Byram, North Yorkshire, itself from Old English bȳre (“byre, shed”).

First attested as burum in 1408. Borrowed from West Frisian Boerum, derived in turn from the dative plural form of Old Frisian buur (“home, cottage”). Compare Bierum and Sexbierum.
