Etymology[edit]
From κῆτος (kêtos, “whale, great see creature”) + ῥίνη (rhínē, “rasp, file”) or + ῥινός (rhinós, “hide, skin”), the first element due to the shark's scale and the second refering to the jagged and raspy skin of a shark.
