The community was established in the 1880's around a mechanical pulp mill built by the company Enso Träsliperi Aktiebolaget, hence the name. When Finland ceded territory to the Soviet Union after the WWII, the town was renamed Светогорск(Svetogorsk, “Svetogorsk”).
