From Turkish Gelibolu, from Ottoman Turkish گلیبولی (Gelibolu), from Byzantine Greek Καλλίπολις (Kallípolis), from the combining form of Ancient Greek κάλλος (kállos, beauty, beautiful) + πόλις (pólis, city, city-state). Doublet of Callipolis, Kallipolis, and Gallipoli.
