From Scottish Gaelic Gille Fhaolain, from Irish Gaelic Giolla Fhaoláin, meaning “servant of (Saint) Fillan.” The personal name, Faolán, is thought to be a diminutive of faol, meaning "wolf" or "little wolf".[1]
