From French Nabeul, from Arabic نَابِل (Nābil), from Byzantine Greek Νεάπολις (Neápolis), from Ancient Greek νέᾱ́ (néā́, “new”) + πόλῐς (pólis, “city, city-state”). Doublet of Nablus, Naples, Neapoli, and Neapolis.
