Etymology[edit]

The original settlement was named Culilay and renamed San Juan during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. It was renamed Las Navas, and shortly thereafter changed to its present name, after the city's short surge of growth under the Philippine Commonwealth.

The female given name is from Spanish Prosperidad.
