[edit]From Pre-Germanic *bʰoru-ḱos. For the root, compare Russian бо́ров (bórov, “hog, castrated boar”); for the suffix, compare *elhaz (“elk”), *selhaz (“seal”) and Proto-Indo-European *h₂ŕ̥tḱos (“bear”).
