Etymology[edit]
From *wer- (“to turn, twist”). Compare Ancient Greek ῥέμβω (rhémbō, “I turn in circles”). Possibly a Blend of *wringaną (“to squeeze, to twist”) + *hrimpaną (“to wrinkle, to shrink”).
