Questions

@Victar, what's the source for बुख (bukha)? I can't really find it. Also, Is the accent based on the fact that the *o is full-grade and the stem isn't (which is a fine reason)? Also, Kroonen gives a different formation that this (a highly speculative one). Any thoughts on that? Also, why the lengthening in Iranian? —JohnC5 05:08, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Apparently the Sanskrit word is actually Sanskrit बुक्क (bukka) with the source given as "Lexicographers, esp. such as amarasiṃha, halāyudha, hemacandra, &c.". Crom daba (talk) 09:12, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I got बुख (bukha) from cognate lists here on the project, but I recall seeing it elsewhere as well. Yeah, that was my thought behind it, but after I added it, I also had the thought if this is a non-PIE word, all bets are off on the placement of stress. Probably should have just left as is. @Vahagn Petrosyan: Good looking out. I hope that's better. I'm still trying to reconcile the PII form, which requires either to aspirated consonant in the middle, or *b-, the latter actually perhaps fitting better with the PNC etymology, but at odds with the Armenian, which demands *bʰu(H)ǵó-. It would be great if they all the forms could be unified with some unusual consonant cluster, like *-ǵʰḱ-. ---Victar (talk) 16:48, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

@Vahagn Petrosyan: Or simply borrowed twice or more from the same foreign word. I only know 2 ways to get germinated -kk- in Sanskrit though, and *-ǵk- is one of them, so that's the best I can do for now. --Victar (talk) 23:53, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
