Talk:Châu Á
Chinese characters
[edit]I don't believe the derivation is directly from Chinese, as the word order seems wrong, and the character 洲 is more likely than 州 in any case. 71.66.97.228 19:06, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Listing Hán tự = "州亞" is wrong. Some Vietnamese terms may have a Chinese derivation, but have been switched around so the word order is opposite (Chinese is usually Adjective-Noun but Vietnamese is usually Noun-Adjective. Hán tự means "Classical Chinese," which would properly write 亞州, not 州亞, even as used in Vietnamese written records when Hán tự was used. An "Etymology" section, giving the Chinese origin of this term, would be fine, if it makes clear that the Vietnamese term has switched the component words around. Please fix. 71.66.97.228 22:19, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
