My first reaction: I don't think so. But, 10,300 hits on google. In my brief glance, none of them looked old nor befitting the CFI. --Stranger 00:13, 3 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

not a word

[edit]

"facepalm" is not a word, it's an internet meme and even internet lingo, but outside of meme communities (i.e. common parlance) it is not yet known enough to be documented here. Of course if Wiktionary does cater to internet memes, well then there should similarly be entries for "epic fail", "pwn", "i has cheezburger", as a matter of fact, why even bother, just copy-paste from UrbanDictionary.

All words are "memes". We have pwn, fail, all your base are belong to us and other gaming and texting words. We don't have the others you mention because they are sum-of-the-parts expressions, just as we don't have "colossal failure" or "I had a cheeseburger". Unlike Urban dictionary, we require that a word be attestable. DCDuring TALK 19:52, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also, copying and pasting from any source that has a valid copyright is illegal. If we find such material we delete it. We usually don't have to work hard to find the copyvio definitions from Urban dictionary because they don't read like a real dictionary def. DCDuring TALK 19:54, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Noun?

[edit]

The photo caption says "a facepalm", so is it a noun? The entry doesn't list one. 86.131.98.77 01:07, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, a noun. Done Done Equinox 21:54, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Has two quotations of usage from 1996, but still described as "attested since at least 2001"? 4a617374726562 (talk) 12:46, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
