(See also Talk:spare.) I see the "mad" sense of "spare" used with verbs other than "go", like "drive him spare", which suggests the sense should be at "spare". But "go spare" seems to be the most common collocation by far, so I'm not sure if it should be removed from "go spare". - -sche (discuss) 18:32, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

- As Thrydulf reports, there is some use of go spare with a different sense of spare {"extra, excess"). Maybe other senses could be used with go. Also, could spare be used after be, possibly with a clarifying modifier (eg, raving?)? Could it be used attributively? Finding such use would be difficult, but to me it would be sufficient to warrant excluding go spare except, possibly, as a redirect to a senseid and/or usage example at spare ("mad").
