- Well, a mackinaw coat or a mackinaw jacket isn't just a coat or jacket made of mackinaw fabric, it's specifically a heavy, double-breasted jacket. Never heard of a mackinaw shirt though; delete as defined. -- Visviva 08:05, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Mackinaw Shirt
A "mackinaw shirt" is mentioned in Ernest Hemingway's The Nick Adams Stories. It's a thick woolen shirt without the batten lining of a coat.— This unsigned comment was added by Mjpf (talk • contribs) at 15:17, 2 July 2015.
- Thanks for the info, Mjpf, and welcome to Wiktionary. The entry for mackinaw shirt was deleted not because the term mackinaw shirt is not used but because it means merely "shirt made of mackinaw". (We don't want entries for woolen shirt, polyester trousers, cotton tee shirt, argyle necktie, etc.) If you can support a claim that it means something different from that, then I invite you to reopen discussion at the page where we discuss deletion of pages for that reason. Alternatively, add your evidence to the bottom of the discussion page for the entry.
