- (I have no special knowledge of Canadian, but) I suspect this is like korma / tomatillo discussed in the Tea Room recently, i.e. it's doesn't seem to be Canadian dialect per se, it's just found where there are significant English-speaking Ukrainian populations or populations which discuss Ukrainian cultural traditions, which there's (slightly) more of in Canada. But a cursory google finds American and British use (Ohio, Maryland, Mississippi, and in the UK the Daily Mail shop(!) seems to sell them).
