Ukrainian писанка (pýsanka) < писати (pysáty, to write), referring to writing on an egg with a stylus in a wax-resist dyeing process, from Proto-Slavic *pьsati, related to *pьstrъ (feathered), + Ukrainian feminine ending -ка (-ka)
