Template:topic cat parents/Fictional dogs[edit]

Fictional dogs are necessarily single specific entities, probably from books or films. Should not be in a dictionary. Do we remember what a dictionary is? Not being on paper doesn't mean we should include every single thing ever stated or created by anybody. Equinox 00:58, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

We do have policies for including fictional characters into appendices or entries. Once they're created, it's natural to categorize them. If we keep Pluto, Lassie and Snoopy but delete Category:Fictional dogs, then these entries simply will have to be members of Category:Fiction and of Category:Dogs, merely losing that connection of being simultaneously "fictional" and "a dog".
Despite listing Template:topic cat parents/Fictional dogs as the header of this discussion, you don't seem to specifically disagree with the set of parent categories of Category:Fictional dogs. If you disagree with a policy, which is a major issue, then you should state and elaborate your opinion at BP or another place. --Daniel. 01:22, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
If you don't know what dictionary means, you should read the entry and develop your opinion, from here or another dictionary. Equinox 01:27, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Since this was your response to my statements about the policies developed by the community, I assume your word "you" is plural, and you are implying that the whole community (or perhaps just the supporters of Wiktionary:Votes/pl-2008-01/Appendices for fictional terms) should develop their knowledge of what a dictionary is.
You might help us by catering to another decision of the community: just attest a meaning of a dictionary that specifically excludes fictional dogs, or specific entities as a whole. --Daniel. 01:40, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
And you might help us by going to write about the Japanimation, video-game, cosplaying stuff that makes up your entire lexicon on Wikipedia, where I understand they welcome trivia, and not in a dictionary that is supposed to define general-purpose words rather than pop-culture ephemera. Either you don't know my entire lexicon or you are just trying to insult me randomly. Both options are correct, I assume. Please calm down. If your interpretation of a dictionary is so correct and unquestionable, then you'd probably win rational discussions and/or votes on this subject if you tried. --Daniel. 01:50, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I assume, despite the heading, that it's the category that's nominated here, with the topic cat parents and topic cat description also to be deleted if the category is? If that was the intent, delete as overly narrow. Otherwise, nominator, please clarify your intent.—msh210 (talk) 03:55, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
