Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to one of the discussion rooms or ask me on my Talk page.

Did you know that Wiktionary can be adapted to fit your style? Go have a look at your personal preference page (nicknamed “PREFS”)! In particular, you can choose the option to show hidden categories, which will be of great help if you are looking for work to do.

Again, welcome! --EncycloPetey 19:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Our Old French entry Henri is based on the attested spelling. I'm not saying Henry isn't older, but where would we find it? There's no http://www.cnrtl.fr/etymologie/Henri because the cnrtl doesn't do proper nouns. Any sources you have, especially primary, would be appreciated. If you disagree with an etymology, don't hack the guts out of it and leave mutilated remnants, like you did with this entry. You have at least four options:

  1. Replace the etymology part with a good etymology
  2. Add {{rfv-etymology}} to the etymology, preferably also clicking on the "+" in the box that the template generates to post a request at the Etymology scriptorium for the etymology to be checked and/or removed.
  3. Replace the etymology part with {{rfe|fr}} (or other language code instead of the "fr" for entries in other languages) so others know it needs a new one (which is what I did for this entry).
  4. Remove the entire etymology section, including the "===Etymology===".
