Hmong (RPA: Hmoob), also spelled Mong (RPA: Moob), and also known as Miao in China, is a group of languages. It is sometimes considered a dialect continuum, but its dozens of members are not mutually intelligible.

Hmong Daw

The Hmong Daw ("White Hmong", RPA: Hmoob Dawb) variety of Hmong uses several tones. These are represented in RPA as follows:

high	-b	pob (“ball”)
high falling	-j	poj (“female”)
mid rising	-v	pov (“throw”)
mid	-∅	po (“spleen”)
mid low (breathy)	-g	pog (“paternal grandmother”)
low	-s	pos (“thorn”)
low falling (creaky)	-m	pom (“see”)
low rising	-d	(occurs in place of -m at the end of phrases)
