(ecology) A place with a significant level of biodiversity, particularly if the flora and fauna are threatened with loss of their habitat. Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity or World Biodiversity Day, which is recognized by the United Nations to promote awareness of the importance of biodiversity. The Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted on this day in 1992.
