From Biblical Hebrew יָהוּשׁוּעַ (jaˈhuːʃū́aʿ, “YAH saves”), the fully uncensored form of יְהוֹשֻׁעַ (yəhōšúaʿ, “Yehoshua or Joshua”), often contracted to יֵשׁוּעַ (yēšū́aʿ, “Yeshua”) to avoid saying the Sacred Name יָה (jaˈh, “YAH”) . The Ancient Greek translation of the New Testament uses the Hellenized form Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, "Iesous"), which is commonly transcribed to English as Jesus.
