Basque
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably a borrowing from Late Latin asciola.[1] Basque prehistorian José Miguel Barandiaran had previously proposed that the term was formed as a compound in pre-historic Basque with the first element, (h)aitz (“stone”) and the second, gora (“on top, up”).[2]
